WHO Chief Denounces Xenophobic Violence in South Africa, Calls for Migrant Safety
By Rukevwe Odeh
Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has strongly condemned the recent wave of xenophobic attacks in South Africa and urged authorities to ensure the safety and dignity of migrants living in the country.
In a statement shared on social media, Tedros expressed deep concern over reports of violence directed at foreign nationals. He noted that the unrest has reportedly resulted in deaths, forced thousands of people from their homes, and left many others seeking refuge.
The WHO chief described the attacks as a tragic setback for African unity, recalling the support many African nations provided to South Africa during its struggle against apartheid. He emphasized that the spirit of solidarity that once united the continent should not be replaced by hostility toward fellow Africans.
Tedros called on South African authorities and communities to protect vulnerable migrants and uphold human rights. He stressed that all individuals, regardless of their nationality or immigration status, deserve safety, respect, and access to essential services.
The appeal comes amid growing international concern over anti-immigrant violence in parts of South Africa, which has prompted some foreign nationals to return to their home countries due to security fears. Governments and humanitarian organizations have continued to urge calm while advocating for stronger measures to prevent further attacks and displacement.
The WHO chief reiterated the need for compassion, inclusion, and peaceful coexistence, urging leaders and citizens alike to reject xenophobia and work toward a more united and secure society for all.

Putin Claims All 32 NATO Members Are Directly Involved in Ukraine War
By Rukevwe Odeh
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia is effectively facing opposition from all 32 NATO member states in the ongoing war in Ukraine, insisting that the alliance is openly involved in the conflict.
Speaking on the situation, Putin argued that Western nations are no longer hiding their support for Ukraine, claiming that NATO countries are already participating in actions against Russia through military aid, intelligence support, and weapons supply.
He described the development as a serious challenge for Moscow, but maintained that Russia’s military and defence industry have adapted to the pressure and continue to respond effectively.
Putin has repeatedly accused NATO of being directly or indirectly involved in the war, a claim Western leaders reject. NATO members maintain that they are supporting Ukraine’s defence while not being parties to the conflict.
The war between Russia and Ukraine, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, has continued to escalate tensions between Moscow and Western nations, particularly NATO allies.
