Fourth Evacuation Flight from South Africa Postponed Over Aircraft Technical Fault
By Rukevwe Odeh
The Federal Government has announced a delay in the fourth evacuation flight arranged to bring Nigerians stranded in South Africa back home following the discovery of a technical fault on the aircraft scheduled for the operation.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the aircraft was unable to depart from Johannesburg after engineers identified cracks on the cockpit windscreen during routine pre-flight safety inspections. The issue prompted the airline to suspend the flight in line with standard aviation safety procedures.
Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa explained that passenger safety remains the government’s top priority and assured affected travellers that alternative arrangements were being made. He added that another aircraft would be deployed by Air Peace to complete the evacuation mission as soon as possible.
The ministry expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the unexpected delay and appealed to the stranded Nigerians for patience while efforts continue to ensure their safe return.
The evacuation exercise is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing initiative to assist Nigerians in South Africa, with officials maintaining that all necessary measures are being taken to complete the operation safely
