PDP Blames Kwara Government Over Woro Kidnap Victims, Praises Oyo Rescue Efforts

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over the prolonged captivity of residents abducted from Woro community, saying the successful rescue of kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oyo State exposes shortcomings in Kwara’s handling of insecurity.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the opposition party applauded the Oyo State Government for securing the release of the victims, describing the operation as evidence of determined leadership, effective coordination with security agencies, and strong collaboration with the Federal Government.
The PDP argued that while families in Oyo are celebrating the return of their loved ones, many households in Kwara remain distressed over the continued captivity of about 176 residents allegedly abducted from Woro in Kaiama Local Government Area on February 3, 2026. According to the party, the victims have remained in captivity for 158 days without a successful rescue effort.
The party maintained that Oyo’s achievement was not by chance but the result of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to making the rescue mission a top priority through close engagement with security agencies.
It accused the AbdulRazaq administration of failing to show similar urgency in addressing insecurity, insisting that residents of Kwara deserve the same level of attention and commitment.
The opposition also alleged that the state government has focused more on suppressing critics than confronting criminal elements, claiming that individuals who speak out against the administration’s handling of insecurity are often targeted instead of being listened to.
The PDP further referred to a previous protest by women from Ifelodun Local Government Area, alleging that demonstrators demanding the rescue of kidnapped relatives were assaulted during their peaceful gathering.
Drawing a comparison, the party said Governor Makinde engaged protesters in Oyo, explained ongoing rescue efforts, and reassured them of the government’s commitment, describing the approach as an example of responsive leadership.
The party also commended civil society organisations, media groups, and activists for sustaining pressure that it believes contributed to the eventual rescue of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
It urged Governor AbdulRazaq to treat the Oyo operation as a lesson and intensify efforts to secure the freedom of those still held by kidnappers in Woro and other affected communities.
The PDP also called on residents of Kwara, journalists, academics, and civil society organisations to continue demanding accountability and stronger action from the state government regarding those still in captivity.
As of the time the statement was released, the Kwara State Government had not publicly responded to the allegations made by the opposition party.

A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.
The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.
The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.
They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.
The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.

Residents and road users along the Warri Airport Road, particularly the section near Federal Government College in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, have continued to contend with recurring flooding despite years of road construction and rehabilitation efforts.
The affected stretch is frequently submerged following heavy rainfall, with inadequate drainage identified as a major factor contributing to the persistent flooding.
The recurring situation has raised concerns among motorists, residents and other road users, who say the condition of the road continues to disrupt movement and create difficulties for commuters whenever there is significant rainfall.
The development has also renewed calls for attention to the drainage system along the route, with residents hoping that a lasting solution will be implemented to prevent the road from repeatedly becoming flooded.

A heavy downpour has left the popular NNPC Housing Complex Road, also known as Ekpan Link Road, submerged in floodwater in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The rainfall caused significant water accumulation along the busy road, affecting movement and creating difficulties for motorists and other road users.
The condition of the road has renewed concerns over flooding and drainage challenges in the area, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents and commuters are expected to exercise caution while using the affected route as efforts to manage the situation continue.
