Tinubu Names Fayose, 25 Others to Lead Federal Agencies

President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments into several federal government agencies and commissions, naming former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The appointments, announced by the Presidency through the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, involve 26 individuals who will serve across 10 government institutions. According to the statement, all appointments take effect immediately.

Fayose will head the board of the Rural Electrification Agency alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors. The agency’s Managing Director, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, together with the existing executive directors, will remain in office.

In another appointment, retired Major General Junaid Bindawa was selected to chair the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. Former lawmaker Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas will serve as the commission’s Secretary, while Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Umar Barde were appointed commissioners representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states respectively.

Other members of the commission include Dr. Mai Adamu Yau, Ginika Florence Tor, Engineer Lawrence Okoh and Bello Morenike Iyabode.

President Tinubu also reassigned Tosin Johnson Adeyanju from the National Lottery Trust Fund to become Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

Additional appointments include Dr. Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission and Dr. Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc. Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, while Engineer Julius Oloro will lead the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation.

The President further approved a new board for the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, with Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu serving as Chairman. Other members are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.

Also appointed was Shuni Muhammad Dahiru as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. Meanwhile, Gisaor Vincent Iorja was named Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Mathias Byuan.

The Presidency said the appointments became effective immediately following the President’s approval.

A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

 

The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.

 

The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

 

According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.

 

The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.

 

They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.

 

The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

 

Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.

The affected stretch is frequently submerged following heavy rainfall, with inadequate drainage identified as a major factor contributing to the persistent flooding.

 

The recurring situation has raised concerns among motorists, residents and other road users, who say the condition of the road continues to disrupt movement and create difficulties for commuters whenever there is significant rainfall.

 

The development has also renewed calls for attention to the drainage system along the route, with residents hoping that a lasting solution will be implemented to prevent the road from repeatedly becoming flooded.
