The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced a fresh increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), with petrol now selling for ₦1,270 per litre at many of its retail outlets in Abuja and nearby locations.

The new price represents a ₦115 increase from the previous rate of ₦1,155 per litre, according to observations at several NNPCL filling stations. The adjustment comes as fuel marketers continue to review prices amid changes in the downstream petroleum market.

The latest increase follows a series of price revisions by depot operators and independent marketers, many of whom have adjusted their rates more than once within the past week due to ongoing market pressures.

The development also comes after reports that some NNPCL and MRS filling stations in Abuja temporarily suspended fuel sales because of supply challenges, while other marketers implemented new pricing in response to rising depot costs.

Industry observers have linked the latest price movement to continued uncertainty in the petroleum sector, including the recent decision by the Dangote Refinery to resume the sale of refined petroleum products in U.S. dollars. The move has generated concerns among marketers and stakeholders over its potential impact on fuel costs and product availability.

The higher pump price is expected to further increase transportation expenses and the cost of goods and services, adding to the financial burden on Nigerians already grappling with a high cost of living.

A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.

The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.

The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.

They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.

The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.
