33 Years on the Throne: Pere Bosu Dio’s Reign and the Legacy of Quiet Leadership

For more than three decades, His Royal Majesty, Pere Bosu Dio (JP), Ayamabulou I, the Pere of Iduwini Kingdom in Delta State, has remained a notable figure in the traditional leadership landscape of the Niger Delta.
As the monarch marks 33 years on the throne, attention has once again turned to a reign widely associated with continuity, traditional values and service to the people.
Pere Bosu Dio’s journey as a traditional ruler has spanned a period of significant social, political and economic changes in the Niger Delta. Throughout the years, he has continued to occupy a prominent place among traditional institutions in the region.
His position has also seen him participate in engagements involving other traditional rulers and stakeholders, particularly on issues concerning peace, unity and the development of communities in the Niger Delta.
The monarch currently serves as a respected voice within traditional rulers’ circles in Delta State. In previous engagements, he has been associated with efforts to strengthen cooperation among traditional institutions and encourage communities to remain united.
In 2023, Pere Bosu Dio was publicly congratulated on reaching his 30th coronation anniversary, with admirers describing his three decades on the throne as a period marked by dedication, resilience and commitment to his people.
His traditional leadership responsibilities have also extended beyond his immediate kingdom. In 2024, he served as chairman of the Burutu Traditional Rulers Committee and participated in the formal reception of a newly installed monarch from Ngbilebiri-Mein Kingdom. On that occasion, he urged the new monarch and his people to maintain unity and ensure that all sections of the kingdom were carried along.
Pere Bosu Dio has equally been not only present but very instrumental to several gatherings involving traditional rulers across Delta State and the wider Niger Delta. His participation in such events has reinforced the role of traditional institutions as important platforms for dialogue, cultural preservation and community cohesion.
At 33 years on the throne, the story of Pere Bosu Dio is therefore not simply about the length of a reign. It is also about the responsibilities that come with traditional authority and the expectations placed on a monarch to preserve the identity, dignity and unity of his people.
For the people of Iduwini Kingdom, the anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect on the journey so far and to recognise a monarch whose influence has extended into wider traditional leadership circles across the Niger Delta.
As another milestone is reached, Pere Bosu Dio’s reign continues to represent a chapter in the evolving history of Iduwini Kingdom and the enduring institution of traditional leadership in the Niger Delta.

A boat carrying nearly 270 people has capsized off northern Cyprus as a search and rescue operation is under way.

A major search and rescue operation is under way off the coast of northern Cyprus after a boat carrying nearly 270 people capsized in the Mediterranean Sea.
The vessel was reportedly carrying 267 people, including 259 passengers and eight crew members, when it ran into trouble during its journey.
Emergency teams, including coastguard vessels, helicopters and Turkish rescue personnel, were deployed to the area as authorities launched a massive operation to save survivors and locate those still missing.
Several people have been rescued, while authorities continue searching the waters for other passengers. The exact number of casualties and missing persons remains unclear as the rescue operation continues.
The cause of the capsizing has not yet been officially confirmed, and authorities have launched an investigation into what led to the maritime disaster.

A commercial Embraer E190 passenger jet operated by Airlink—bearing a custom “Go Bokke” logo on its underside—executed a precise, ultra-low flyover directly above the open-roof stadium.
Approaching from a holding pattern near Robben Island, the airliner thundered over the venue, passing through pyrotechnic smoke erupting from the roofline before banking hard over Table Mountain. Spectator footage instantly flooded platforms like TikTok and X, with millions debating the aircraft’s proximity to the stadium superstructure.
Data from flight-tracking service Flightradar24 revealed that the jet descended to roughly 200 feet above sea level.
