Residents of Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, including women and youths, have taken to the streets to protest what they described as the deteriorating state of healthcare services in the riverine community.

The protesters called on the Delta State Government and relevant authorities to urgently intervene in the health sector, particularly by rehabilitating medical facilities and ensuring the deployment of adequate personnel and essential equipment.

The demonstration reportedly attracted residents who expressed concerns over the difficulties faced by people seeking medical attention in the area.

As part of the protest, the residents reportedly stopped and seized the speedboat belonging to the Burutu Local Government Council Chairman, Julius Takeme, as they intensified their demands for immediate action.

The protesters insisted that healthcare should be treated as an urgent priority, stressing that residents in the riverine communities should not be left without access to functional medical services.

They appealed to the state government to improve the condition of health facilities, provide qualified medical workers and ensure that essential drugs and other medical supplies are available.

The development has renewed concerns over healthcare delivery in Burutu, where the difficult riverine terrain can make access to medical services particularly challenging.

The protest comes amid ongoing discussions over development and service delivery in the local government. Takeme had previously said his administration had undertaken renovations of primary healthcare centres in several communities and introduced free medical outreach programmes for residents.

He also said the council was implementing various infrastructure and human-capital development initiatives across Burutu.

However, the latest protest indicates that some residents remain dissatisfied with the state of healthcare services and are demanding more immediate intervention.

The protesters urged the authorities to engage with the community and take concrete steps toward restoring confidence in the local healthcare system.

They also called for sustained government attention to the challenges confronting residents of Burutu, particularly in areas of healthcare, infrastructure and access to basic services.

As of the time of filing this report, the full response of the Burutu Local Government Council and the Delta State Government to the latest protest could not be independently established.

A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.

The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.

The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.

They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.

The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.
