Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that the country’s security challenges will eventually be brought under control, expressing confidence that ongoing efforts by the Federal Government will restore lasting peace.

Akpabio gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving members of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, led by its National President, Dr. Lima Ahmed, during a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly in Abuja.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu’s administration has placed security at the forefront of its priorities and is taking decisive steps to address the situation. He cited the recent rescue of abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State as an indication of the government’s commitment to combating insecurity.

The Senate President urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and avoid relying solely on reports circulating on social media, insisting that such platforms do not always present an accurate picture of events across the country.

Speaking further, Akpabio encouraged greater participation of women in politics. He observed that a lack of support among women during elections has, in some cases, stemmed from the conduct of previous female office holders, which he said discouraged confidence in other women seeking elective positions.

He also pledged the support of the Senate for the forthcoming international ladies’ golf tournament scheduled to take place at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.

Earlier, Dr. Lima Ahmed appreciated the Senate President for receiving the delegation and formally invited him to the tournament. She also honoured him with the title of Grand Patron of the association in recognition of his support for the development of women’s golf in Nigeria.
