Atiku, SOKAPU Condemn Fresh Southern Kaduna Killings, Urge Immediate Security Response

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU) have strongly condemned the latest wave of violence in Southern Kaduna, calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to take urgent steps to end the recurring attacks on communities.
Reacting to reports of deadly attacks in Kauru Local Government Area, Atiku described the killings as tragic and unacceptable. He said the continued loss of innocent lives raises serious concerns about the government’s ability to provide adequate security for citizens.
According to the former vice president, no administration can claim success when people continue to be attacked and killed in their homes. He also criticized what he described as misplaced priorities by some government officials, arguing that greater attention should be devoted to protecting lives rather than engaging in political distractions. Atiku urged authorities to review the country’s security framework and strengthen measures aimed at preventing repeated attacks on vulnerable communities.
Meanwhile, SOKAPU appealed to the Kaduna State Police Command to intensify efforts against the growing insecurity affecting Southern Kaduna. In an open letter addressed to the state’s Commissioner of Police, the group’s president, Engr. Tabara Samuel Kato, expressed concern over increasing incidents of killings, kidnappings, and the destruction of farmlands.
The union said its appeal followed an early morning attack on Narido community in Kauru Local Government Area, where about 30 people, including women and children, were reportedly killed, while several others sustained injuries.
SOKAPU stated that residents of Kauru, Kajuru, Chikun, and Zangon Kataf local government areas continue to live under constant fear despite previous assurances from security agencies. The group noted that many families have been displaced from their ancestral homes, while criminal elements continue to operate in several communities.
To address the situation, the union called for the deployment of additional Mobile Police and specialized counter-terrorism personnel to vulnerable areas and forest corridors. It also advocated intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal hideouts, regular patrols around farming communities, and quicker responses to emergency distress calls.
The organization emphasized that restoring public confidence requires proactive policing and effective communication between security agencies and local residents. It maintained that safeguarding lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government.
Copies of the letter were also forwarded to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, with SOKAPU urging both the state government and security authorities to act swiftly to prevent further bloodshed and displacement across Southern Kaduna.

A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.
The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.
The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.
They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.
The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.

Residents and road users along the Warri Airport Road, particularly the section near Federal Government College in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, have continued to contend with recurring flooding despite years of road construction and rehabilitation efforts.
The affected stretch is frequently submerged following heavy rainfall, with inadequate drainage identified as a major factor contributing to the persistent flooding.
The recurring situation has raised concerns among motorists, residents and other road users, who say the condition of the road continues to disrupt movement and create difficulties for commuters whenever there is significant rainfall.
The development has also renewed calls for attention to the drainage system along the route, with residents hoping that a lasting solution will be implemented to prevent the road from repeatedly becoming flooded.

A heavy downpour has left the popular NNPC Housing Complex Road, also known as Ekpan Link Road, submerged in floodwater in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The rainfall caused significant water accumulation along the busy road, affecting movement and creating difficulties for motorists and other road users.
The condition of the road has renewed concerns over flooding and drainage challenges in the area, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents and commuters are expected to exercise caution while using the affected route as efforts to manage the situation continue.
