Burna Boy Makes History as First Nigerian to Perform at FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show
By Derick Peretengboro
Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Burna Boy has achieved another major milestone, becoming the first Nigerian artiste to perform during the halftime show of a FIFA World Cup final.
The historic performance took place on Sunday at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States, where Burna Boy shared the stage with Colombian music icon Shakira during FIFA’s first-ever official halftime entertainment at a World Cup final.
The duo thrilled fans with a live rendition of “Dai Dai,” the tournament’s official anthem, entertaining thousands of spectators inside the stadium and millions of viewers watching around the world.
Although Nigerian stars such as Femi Kuti and Rema have appeared at previous FIFA World Cup-related events, Burna Boy’s appearance marks the first time a Nigerian artiste has performed during the halftime show of the tournament’s final. The achievement further highlights the growing international influence of Nigerian music and the global success of Afrobeats.
The halftime show itself was another landmark moment for FIFA, introducing a Super Bowl-style entertainment segment to the World Cup final for the first time. The event featured performances from several international music stars, making it one of the biggest entertainment spectacles in football history.

Warri Group Withdraws Support for Ereyitomi, Backs Mulade for 2027 Reps Election
By staff Reporter Rukevwe Odeh
A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.
The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.
The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.
They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.
The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.
