Cooking Gas Price Rises 25% to ₦1,500 as Diesel Costs Climb

The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, has increased by about 25 per cent, with the product now selling for as much as ₦1,500 per kilogramme in some locations.
The latest increase represents a rise from the previous price level of about ₦1,200 per kilogramme, adding to the financial pressure already facing households and businesses that depend on LPG for cooking and other activities.
At the same time, the price of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly called diesel, has also recorded fresh increases across several depots.
Reports from the September 16, 2026 mid-day depot price monitoring showed diesel selling for as high as ₦2,300 per litre at some filling stations and depots, compared with about ₦2,200 recorded in August.
In Lagos, Ibachem recorded a significant increase, moving from ₦1,830 to ₦2,000 per litre. Ibeto also raised its price from ₦1,835 to ₦1,970, while Duport and Integrated moved up to ₦1,940 per litre.
Ardova increased its diesel price to ₦1,970 per litre, while Eterna and Rain Oil recorded prices of about ₦2,000 per litre. Nipco sold at ₦1,950 per litre.
Similar increases were recorded in Port Harcourt, where African Terminal, Duport and Integrated raised their prices to ₦1,940 per litre.
In Warri, Matrix increased its AGO price from ₦2,080 to ₦2,120 per litre, the highest depot price recorded in the latest monitoring report.
The rise in diesel costs is expected to place additional pressure on businesses and industries that rely on AGO to power generators, move goods and operate equipment. Manufacturers, transport operators, telecommunications companies and small businesses are among those likely to be affected by higher operating expenses.
Meanwhile, petrol prices showed relatively limited movement in some of the locations monitored.
In Lagos, petrol prices remained within the range of ₦1,350 to ₦1,353 per litre, while some marketers recorded marginal increases or reductions.
In Calabar, some outlets reduced their prices, with Alkanes cutting its rate to ₦1,338 per litre and Matrix reducing its price to ₦1,355.
Warri also recorded relatively modest movements, with some outlets retaining prices around ₦1,350 per litre while others reduced their rates to about ₦1,340.
The divergent movements in the petroleum market mean that while petrol prices have remained comparatively stable in the areas monitored, consumers of diesel and cooking gas are facing renewed cost increases.
Vice-President of the Oil and Gas Service Providers Association of Nigeria (OGSPAN), Lawal Kamaldeen, described the downstream petroleum market as unstable and warned that prices could remain unpredictable in the coming weeks.
The latest development could further affect household budgets, production costs, transportation and the prices of goods and services if the increases in LPG and diesel persist.

A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.
The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.
The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.
They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.
The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.

Residents and road users along the Warri Airport Road, particularly the section near Federal Government College in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, have continued to contend with recurring flooding despite years of road construction and rehabilitation efforts.
The affected stretch is frequently submerged following heavy rainfall, with inadequate drainage identified as a major factor contributing to the persistent flooding.
The recurring situation has raised concerns among motorists, residents and other road users, who say the condition of the road continues to disrupt movement and create difficulties for commuters whenever there is significant rainfall.
The development has also renewed calls for attention to the drainage system along the route, with residents hoping that a lasting solution will be implemented to prevent the road from repeatedly becoming flooded.

A heavy downpour has left the popular NNPC Housing Complex Road, also known as Ekpan Link Road, submerged in floodwater in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The rainfall caused significant water accumulation along the busy road, affecting movement and creating difficulties for motorists and other road users.
The condition of the road has renewed concerns over flooding and drainage challenges in the area, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents and commuters are expected to exercise caution while using the affected route as efforts to manage the situation continue.
