Court Told Alleged Coup Plotters Planned to Take Over Aso Rock, Airports

Fresh testimony before the Federal High Court in Abuja has revealed details of an alleged plot to overthrow the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by targeting strategic government and military facilities across the country.
According to the prosecution, the alleged conspirators assigned different responsibilities to military officers and civilians, with plans to seize key national assets, including the Presidential Villa (Aso Rock), Radio House, airport runways and the residences of top military commanders. Prosecutors argued that the operation was designed to cripple government communication and prevent an effective security response.
Court documents alleged that one of the principal suspects, identified as Usman, was tasked with coordinating an assault on the Presidential Villa after reportedly conducting reconnaissance with the assistance of a police inspector attached to the Presidential Clinic.
The court also heard claims that members of the group considered disrupting electricity supply to the Villa before launching the operation. However, a Julius Berger electrician working within the Villa’s maintenance department reportedly advised against the idea, warning that such an action would immediately raise security concerns.
Investigators further alleged that the suspects planned to recruit insiders, including Villa workers, security personnel and soldiers, to facilitate access to sensitive locations. If internal support proved unsuccessful, the prosecution claimed the group intended to force its way into the complex.
Additional evidence presented in court stated that another suspect was assigned to take over Radio House in Abuja and announce a change of government, while others were allegedly designated to secure the Armed Forces Headquarters, the residences of senior military officers and other strategic installations.
The prosecution also claimed the alleged plot included plans to shut down flight operations at the Abuja airport by blocking the runway with an armed vehicle, while intelligence was reportedly gathered on airport security arrangements in Lagos.
According to prosecutors, the group allegedly sought to obtain weapons, military vehicles and personnel from various formations to support the operation.
The court further heard that disagreements later emerged among the alleged conspirators over how to handle senior military commanders. While some reportedly favoured arresting them, others allegedly argued they should be eliminated to prevent resistance. One suspect reportedly withdrew from the alleged plan following the disagreement.
The defendants are facing treason-related charges. The allegations remain part of the prosecution’s case, and the Federal High Court has yet to determine their guilt or innocence as the trial continues.

A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.
The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.
The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.
They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.
The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.

Residents and road users along the Warri Airport Road, particularly the section near Federal Government College in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, have continued to contend with recurring flooding despite years of road construction and rehabilitation efforts.
The affected stretch is frequently submerged following heavy rainfall, with inadequate drainage identified as a major factor contributing to the persistent flooding.
The recurring situation has raised concerns among motorists, residents and other road users, who say the condition of the road continues to disrupt movement and create difficulties for commuters whenever there is significant rainfall.
The development has also renewed calls for attention to the drainage system along the route, with residents hoping that a lasting solution will be implemented to prevent the road from repeatedly becoming flooded.

A heavy downpour has left the popular NNPC Housing Complex Road, also known as Ekpan Link Road, submerged in floodwater in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The rainfall caused significant water accumulation along the busy road, affecting movement and creating difficulties for motorists and other road users.
The condition of the road has renewed concerns over flooding and drainage challenges in the area, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents and commuters are expected to exercise caution while using the affected route as efforts to manage the situation continue.
