Ijaw Elders Forum Withdraws Support for INC Over Leadership Dispute
By Rukevwe Odeh
The Ijaw Elders Forum (IEF) has announced its decision to distance itself from the Ijaw National Congress (INC), citing unresolved constitutional and leadership issues within the apex Ijaw socio-cultural organisation.
In a statement released on Saturday, the forum said the prolonged internal crisis had weakened the credibility of the INC and reduced public confidence in its ability to effectively represent and defend the interests of the Ijaw people.
The statement, signed by the Lagos chapter Chairman of the IEF, Chief Bukazi Etete, and its Secretary, Efiye Bribena, maintained that strict adherence to an organisation’s constitution is essential for legitimacy and effective leadership.
According to the elders, repeated appeals by stakeholders for constitutional compliance, institutional reforms and respect for due process have not produced the desired changes, resulting in a prolonged leadership impasse.
The forum stated that, because of the lingering dispute, it no longer recognises the current leadership of the INC, arguing that the organisation has lost the moral authority required to speak on behalf of the Ijaw nation.
To prevent a leadership vacuum, the IEF said it would temporarily resume a broader advocacy role aimed at promoting and protecting the political, economic, environmental, developmental and cultural interests of the Ijaw people until the constitutional issues affecting the congress are resolved.
The elders noted that they played a similar intervention role between 2015 and 2021 during an earlier period of instability within the INC and expressed confidence that the current crisis could also be resolved through constitutional reforms and adherence to due process.

Warri Group Withdraws Support for Ereyitomi, Backs Mulade for 2027 Reps Election
By staff Reporter Rukevwe Odeh
A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.
The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.
The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.
They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.
The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.
