Odimodi Leader, Gbegha, Condemns Attacks on Otuaro, Tonlagha, Tompolo, Other Ijaw Leaders

Odimodi, Delta State — Odimodi Leader, Comrade Solomon Gbegha (JP) has condemned what he described as persistent attacks and campaign of calumni against prominent Ijaw leaders occupying strategic positions in government and the private sector, urging Niger Deltans to unite against what he termed unnecessary internal hostilities.
Gbegha, in a statement made available to newsmen, expressed particular concern over continued criticism, vilification, and attacks directed at the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, High Chief Dennis Otuaro, PhD; the Chief Executive Officer of Maton Engineering Ltd., Mr. Matthew Tonlagha; High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo; Chairman of Tantita Security Services Ltd., and other Ijaw leaders contributing to the security and development of not only the Niger Delta but Nigeria.
The Ijaw development advocate said he was deeply saddened by the involvement of some Ijaw sons in this unholy “onslaught” against their kinsmen, while keeping mum in the many controversial activities and alleged shortcomings of office holders from other ethnic groups and regions were being overlooked. He wondered why those accusing Tompolo of illegal prison and torture have not said anything about nationat embarrassments like the fake federal agency and other trending issues.
Gbegha questioned the rationale behind what he described as the persistent targeting of Ijaw personalities who have attained influential positions, stressing that constructive criticism should not degenerate into hostility, character attacks or campaigns capable of undermining the collective interests of the Niger Delta.
He argued that only Tantita Security Services has over twenty-five thousand men and women across all tribes of the Niger Delta which is why crime rate is very low in the region.
“Therefore Tompolo should be allowed to work as he is doing for the good of not just our people but the environment as well.
“Only yesterday, Otuaro-led PAP deployed another 150 people for offshore Postgrafuate studies again. These are very uncommon occurrences in this part of the world.” Gbegha insisted.
According to him, personalities such as Otuaro, Tonlagha and Ekpemupolo, among others, should rather be applauded and encouraged to deploy their positions and resources towards the stabilisation, development and advancement of the Niger Delta as they are already doing.
“We should be using our voices to push for industries, institutions, and roads to be constructed from Warri to Forcados, Escravos; Benin to Egbema; Agadagba-obon to Okitipupa, not these attempts at pulling down one another.” Gbegha added.
The statement called on Ijaws and other Niger Deltans to put an end to further hostilities against men and women from the region occupying privileged and strategic positions, urging stakeholders to embrace dialogue and unity in addressing genuine concerns.
Gbegha appealed to Niger Deltans to place the collective interest of the region above personal, political or sectional differences, stressing that internal rancour would only undermine the struggle for greater development, recognition and opportunities for the people.
He further urged critics and concerned stakeholders to adopt responsible and constructive approaches in expressing grievances, noting that disagreements should not be allowed to destroy the bonds of brotherhood among the people of the Niger Delta.
“I know Otuaro is making very good efforts at giving massive quality education to our people. He must be supported to achieve more.” He insisted.
The Comrade reaffirmed his call for greater solidarity among Ijaws and Niger Deltans, saying that the region could only achieve meaningful progress when its people supported one another while holding leaders accountable through constructive and responsible engagement.

Humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers says it is ready to step in and provide emergency assistance following devastating floods in Nepal, as the search continues for six South Africans who remain missing.
The severe flooding, triggered by heavy rainfall, has caused widespread destruction across parts of Nepal, leaving communities stranded, damaging infrastructure and complicating ongoing rescue operations.
Gift of the Givers has confirmed that it is closely monitoring the unfolding humanitarian crisis and remains on standby to provide assistance where needed.
Meanwhile, concern is growing over the fate of six South Africans who have yet to be located following the disaster. Search and rescue teams are continuing efforts to find those missing despite difficult weather conditions and challenging terrain.
The floods have left several communities facing uncertainty as emergency responders work to reach affected areas and assess the full scale of the destruction.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as rescue operations continue and efforts intensify to locate survivors.
The unfolding disaster once again highlights the growing threat posed by extreme weather events and the devastating impact they can have on vulnerable communities.

The Kingdom of Tooro in western Uganda has been thrown into mourning following the death of its monarch, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at the age of 34. 🇺🇬👑
King Oyo became king in 1995 at just three years old, following the death of his father, making him the world’s youngest reigning monarch, according to Guinness World Records.
He was officially crowned when he turned 18 in 2010.
The cause of his death has not been officially disclosed. However, Ugandan media reports said the young king had been critically ill and was receiving treatment in the United States.
Despite Uganda being governed by an elected president and parliament, the country maintains several traditional kingdoms that continue to hold strong cultural influence.
King Oyo was the 13th monarch of the Tooro Kingdom, which was established in the early 19th century. He was regarded as a respected leader who championed youth empowerment, education, environmental conservation and HIV/AIDS awareness.
His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes across Uganda.
💔 The Tooro Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, described the monarch’s death as an “immeasurable loss” and called on the people of Tooro to remain united, calm and prayerful.
The Buganda Kingdom and Rwenzururu Kingdom have also expressed condolences to the people of Tooro.
⚽ Uganda’s football governing body has meanwhile announced a moment of silence before all football matches until September 4 in honour of King Oyo’s legacy and contribution to the sport.
Although King Oyo was not officially married, the Tooro Kingdom says the continuity of the Crown is assured, with a prince set to succeed him. The identity of the heir will reportedly be revealed according to Tooro traditions and customs.
👑 From becoming king at just 3 years old to leaving the throne at 34, King Oyo’s extraordinary life has come to an end.
