A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has admitted former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, to bail in the sum of ₦100 million as he faces prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged abuse of office.

Justice Peter Kekemeke approved the bail application after ruling that the prosecution failed to establish sufficient grounds to keep the former CCT chairman in custody pending trial. The court held that there was no convincing evidence that Umar would evade justice or interfere with witnesses if released.

As part of the bail conditions, Umar is required to provide one surety in the same amount. The surety must own landed property within the court’s jurisdiction with valid ownership documentation. Until the conditions are fulfilled, the former tribunal chairman will remain at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The EFCC had arraigned Umar on a four-count charge, accusing him of using his former position to obtain unlawful benefits for himself. He pleaded not guilty to all allegations brought against him.

During the hearing, Umar’s legal team argued that he had consistently cooperated with investigators and honoured every invitation from the anti-graft agency, urging the court to grant him bail. The prosecution opposed the request, expressing concerns that he could influence witnesses or obstruct the trial.

After considering both arguments, the judge ruled that the prosecution’s objections were not supported by sufficient evidence and granted the bail application. The case has been adjourned until October 29, 2026, when trial proceedings are expected to begin.

A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.

The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.

The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.

They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.

The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.
