Leaked Infantino Letter Praises Argentina Despite World Cup Final Loss
By Derick Peretengboro
A letter reportedly written by FIFA President Gianni Infantino to the Argentine Football Association (AFA) following Argentina’s defeat in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final has surfaced online, drawing widespread attention.
The correspondence, which was first reported by Argentine media and later circulated by international outlets, congratulated Argentina on finishing as runners-up despite their 1-0 extra-time defeat to Spain in the final played at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
In the message addressed to AFA President Claudio Tapia, Infantino commended the Argentine team for its impressive campaign and described its contribution as one of the highlights of the tournament. He noted that the World Cup would be remembered for thrilling matches, emerging talents, established stars and the remarkable atmosphere created by fans across the competition.
The FIFA president also praised head coach Lionel Scaloni, the players, backroom staff and supporters, saying their commitment, passion and professionalism played a major role in Argentina’s successful run to the final. He expressed confidence that the national team has a bright future and wished them greater achievements in upcoming competitions.
However, the leaked letter has generated debate because it emerged while FIFA is reportedly reviewing incidents involving members of the Argentine squad after the World Cup final. Several players and officials were accused of engaging in confrontations during the aftermath of the match, prompting an investigation by football’s governing body.
Spain claimed the 2026 FIFA World Cup title after Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time, denying Argentina the chance to retain the trophy they won in 2022.

By staff Reporter Rukevwe Odeh
A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.
The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.
The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.
They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.
The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.
