PAP Administrator Felicitates King Ateke Tom on 62nd Birthday

The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, has congratulated the traditional ruler of Okochiri Kingdom in Rivers State, His Royal Majesty, King Ateke Tom, on the occasion of his 62nd birthday, describing him as a distinguished monarch whose contributions to peace and development in the Niger Delta remain remarkable.
In a goodwill message issued on Wednesday, Dr. Otuaro commended the revered monarch for his commitment to promoting unity, stability and progress within Okochiri Kingdom and across the wider Niger Delta region.
The PAP Administrator noted that King Ateke, who is widely known as the “Sekuro of the Niger Delta,” has played a significant role in fostering peace, security and development in the region, while also providing purposeful leadership to his people since ascending the throne.
According to him, the monarch’s dedication to service and community development has left visible and lasting impacts on Okochiri Kingdom.
Dr. Otuaro also reaffirmed the importance of traditional institutions in promoting peace and sustainable development, stressing that royal fathers remain critical stakeholders in the Presidential Amnesty Programme’s peace-building efforts throughout the Niger Delta.
He stated that the PAP would continue to engage and collaborate with traditional rulers to strengthen peace, stability and development initiatives across the region.
While celebrating the monarch’s new age, the PAP boss urged the people of Okochiri Kingdom to continue supporting their king and the council of chiefs in sustaining harmony and progress within the community.
Offering prayers for the monarch, Dr. Otuaro said:
“Today, I join family, friends and all people of goodwill, as well as sons and daughters of the Niger Delta, to heartily celebrate the King of Okochiri Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King Ateke Tom, on the occasion of his 62nd birthday.”
He added:
“Attaining this milestone is a proof of God’s mercy and grace upon the life of King Ateke. He is a worthy traditional ruler and a great leader who is strongly committed to the unity, peace, and progress of his community.”
Highlighting the monarch’s contributions to the region, Otuaro further stated:
“We are proud of his huge contributions to the peace, stability, security and development of our region, which cannot be wished away by anybody.”
The PAP Administrator also praised the king’s leadership since his ascension to the throne, saying:
“Since ascending the throne, King Ateke has continued to render commendable service, and lead his people on the path of peace and progress of Okochiri Kingdom. He has also been very supportive of efforts at peacebuilding and development of our region. It is my earnest prayer that God Almighty will grant him more wisdom, renewed strength, good health and long life.”
The congratulatory message was conveyed in a statement signed by Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Special Assistant on Media to the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, on June 3, 2026.

A group of stakeholders in Warri has announced its decision to withdraw support for the incumbent member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, while explaining its position, cited what it described as dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance and representation of the constituency.
The stakeholders subsequently declared their support for Comrade Jude Ukori Mulade as their preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
According to the group, its decision followed concerns over the level of representation and development delivered to the constituency under the current administration.
The stakeholders said they were seeking a representative who would be more responsive to the needs of the people and more committed to advancing issues affecting residents across the constituency.
They urged other political stakeholders and eligible voters in Warri to consider Mulade’s candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.
The group’s endorsement adds to the growing political activities and realignments expected to shape the contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ereyitomi, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations contained in the group’s statement.

Residents and road users along the Warri Airport Road, particularly the section near Federal Government College in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, have continued to contend with recurring flooding despite years of road construction and rehabilitation efforts.
The affected stretch is frequently submerged following heavy rainfall, with inadequate drainage identified as a major factor contributing to the persistent flooding.
The recurring situation has raised concerns among motorists, residents and other road users, who say the condition of the road continues to disrupt movement and create difficulties for commuters whenever there is significant rainfall.
The development has also renewed calls for attention to the drainage system along the route, with residents hoping that a lasting solution will be implemented to prevent the road from repeatedly becoming flooded.

A heavy downpour has left the popular NNPC Housing Complex Road, also known as Ekpan Link Road, submerged in floodwater in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The rainfall caused significant water accumulation along the busy road, affecting movement and creating difficulties for motorists and other road users.
The condition of the road has renewed concerns over flooding and drainage challenges in the area, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents and commuters are expected to exercise caution while using the affected route as efforts to manage the situation continue.
